TYMPANOPLASTIE DE TYPE I CARTILAGE VERSUS APONEVROSE TEMPORALE Service d’Oto-Rhino-Laryngologie -Oujda- (A propos de 32 cas)

The tympanoplasties performed with superficial temporal fascia have good results both anatomical and functional. The importance of inflammatory processes has been implicated in cases of anatomical failure. In this situation, the cartilage, because of its resistance to shrinkage and good viability appeared to be a material of choice

Purpose: Our objective is to study the epidemiological profile, the anatomical and functional results of each of the grafts used, and finally compare our results £ with those of the literature

Material and methods: we analyzed what the results were, on a retrospective study of the use of 24 cartilage tympanoplasty and 8 tympanoplasties by temporal+ fascia. The series was gathered over a period of 4 years, from 2011 to 2014, in the service of ORL at the hospital Al Farabi Oujda. Our study focused on two groups separately and by comparing them with an analysis of the results. We found a closure rate of 87.7% after using fascia and 95.8% after use of cartilage. The average hearing gain was 6.9 dB for the fascia group and 6.7 dB for the cartilage group. We see that the two materials involved in obtaining good results. The difference between the success rates for each analyzed variable has identified several risk factors that are factors of poor prognosis anatomical result after fascial graft. Under these conditions, we propose to choose the cartilage as material which we have seen that the functional results are satisfactory
